Can Bing dominate over Google in 2012?

Today, Google might be the dominating search engine in the United States, but research has shown that in the last six months, searches that are powered by Microsoft’s Bing have begun to increase at a rapid pace. So rapid, in fact, that if this trend continues, there will be a real competition between Google and Bing next year. And Bing may just about emerge as the winner! Recent surveys have shown that Google was responsible for almost 65% of the searches in the United States last month. Bing powered searches include searches from bing.com and yahoo.com, have accounted for nearly 30% of the searches in the United States. The very fact that Bing’s searches have crossed the 30% mark has made it a significant competitor to Google. Last year, Google controlled nearly 72% of the search market, while Bing powered searches covered about 23% only. But in the last 6 months, Bing’s market seems to be rising rapidly. But Google still dominates over Bing in a 2 to 1 victory. But when you consider ...

Will Google no longer be the Master of Search Marketing?

Online direct marketers are now being encouraged to concentrate their online search marketing efforts on a new search alliance that has been launched by Yahoo and Bing, thus putting Google in the backseat. With these two mammoth companies working together, they still manage to take up only 8 percent of the market share, as compared to Google’s 90 percent. However, markets have in the past, found it extremely inconvenient to come up with 3 separate PPC campaigns to ensure that their search results appear in all 3 search engines. Now however, keeping this in mind, Yahoo and Bing have collaborated and are urging people to market through their search alliance, as this would mean that search marketers have to come up with only one direct marketing campaign for both the search engines. Both the companies are hoping that this collaboration will give their customers a more realistic choice than using just Google, and it might decrease the popularity of the leading search engine.

Google fails to Mention Facebook

Google has recently announced that its latest search engine would integrate more with social media, and has done so without even mentioning Facebook in the entire blog post! This comes as a major contrast to Microsoft’s announcement of the current Bing browser. This failing to mention Facebook on the part of Google comes as an irony to the previous claim made by Google about how its social search results are “comprehensive”. Of course the announcement did mention Twitter, YouTube and Flickr, but the announcement also kept using the sentence “and other sites” as a way to refer to and dismiss Facebook. What’s more ironical it seems is Google’s assertion about how it has given users more control on how they connect accounts, and how they have made connecting accounts a lot more convenient. Unless the search giant has changed its mind about inoperability with Facebook, you should try importing your Gmail address onto the social networking site, or perhaps vice versa. So what do you have to...

Google & Facebook in Takeover Talks with Twitter

There’s been a lot of talk doing its rounds with regards to the possible sale of Twitter. With such exceptional news reaching us today, many individuals involved in the talks have said that the sale could possibly be valued at $10 billion or more! According to some “very reliable” reports, Google and Facebook have apparently sent out executives to engage in “low level” talks with Twitter. The discussions between the various parties have estimated the value of Twitter somewhere around $8 to $10 billion. But until the matter has been finalized, it wouldn’t be prudent to get your hopes too high, because according to some sources, the talks are apparently not going to get anywhere anytime soon. Is it possible that Twitter feels that the $10 billion value is a little too low? However, in the midst of all this, Twitter seems to be getting a lot of attention, which of course works in favor of its business. Recently, the company set an all-time record for the highest number of tweets recorded ...

Google Celebrates Jules Verne’s 183rd Birthday with a new Doodle!

Google does it again! With the latest interactive doodle that went live today, Google celebrates the 183rd birthday of Jules Verne – the famous author of the novel, “20,000 Leagues under the Sea”. In honor of Verne’s famous novel, Google’s doodle for today is a submarine with all its portholes. A driving panel will allow users to take on the role of Captain Nemo and will allow users to take the submarine to new found depths of the virtual ocean where giant squid and shipwrecks dwell. The doodle also duplicates the gentle swaying of the sea. Verne was born on this day in the year 1828 and was known for high highly provocative science fiction novels that detailed some of the major scientific advancements long before they even came into being. From submarines and airplanes to landing on the moon, Verne predicted it all! The doodle went live this morning across the world. Google is always trying to achieve what most other search engines cannot. With its popularity on the rise, Google’s Doo...

Google and Bing have seen a Steady Growth in December, while Yahoo! has fallen in popularity

The latest reports have shown that Google and Bing have gained a bigger share of the search market in the United States in the month of December last year. Yahoo! On the other hand, has reportedly taken a backseat! Google has reportedly accounted for nearly two thirds of all searches or nearly 67% percent of searched in the month of December, which is a slight increase from the 62% that it boasted of in November. Yahoo! On the other hand, has dropped from a 16.4% in November to a mere 16% in December. Just like Google, even Bing has seen a small rise in share. Its share on the US market in December was 12% from a 11.8% in November. As far as the other search engines are concerned, the ASK market has reportedly dropped to a mere 3.5% from a 3.6% in November and AOL also fell from a 2% to a miniscule 1.9%.

Chrome Users are the Latest Victims in Google’s battle with Apple

Google announced this week that it would be removing support from its H.264 video codec in its popular Chrome browser. If web developers specifically use the latest HTML5 video tag, they will no longer be able to point to the video encoded in the H.264 (AVC) standard format that is used by Chrome users. All the Android users will not be left far behind. The reason is to allow Google to devote more resources in supporting open codec technologies like Theora and WebM. It has also been suggested that this move will help Google save more money by not encoding and storing YouTube videos in this H.264 format. However, this is not really the case, as the H.264 is only format that is allowed on Apple devices like the iPad and iPhone. If YouTube should become incompatible with any of these devices, then it would probably be replaced by other competitors that are more flexible. Also, H.264 is a superior format in terms of user experiences as well as technically. There are fewer hitchers, less bl...

Google Vs Facebook - The Final Face-Off

Facebook has started challenging Google's current supremacy on the Internet, with the help of a radical new approach. This particular approach targets the way people live, play, work and search online. While Google's search engine results are based on a series of selected algorithms, Facebook boasts of a higher level of personalization that is based on one's own likes and dislikes. The founder of Facebook, Mr. Mark Zuckerberg, said that, "I think what we've found is that when you can use products with your friends and your family and the people you care about, they tend to be more engaging," he further went on to say that, "It includes not only what you do and what you like but people you know and what they like and the companies you interact with." Mark Zuckerberg, who founded Facebook in his Harvard University dorm room six years ago and is now worth an estimated $US6.9 billion, refers to it as the "social graph." Furthermore, Facebook ha...

Cleaning Up Your Google Results is Not Difficult Anymore!

Old blog posts and archives can sometimes get very embarrassing. At the same time, cleaning up and improving your search engine reputation can be really difficult. As we all know, Google will remove a particular search result from it results list only if it can be proved that the web page is being used for some kind of theft. Online reputation management services are offered by various companies. They aid you in detecting and downplaying the embarrassing search result pages by using a software algorithm used by all the major search engines. However, it becomes really difficult for private individuals to do the same. Unless you're able to prove that a web page is posing a threat to your personal security, removing search terms altogether is almost impossible. For established journalist types, it is easy to add bulk to their Google queues. It just gets difficult for those without media pillows. But, worry not! Here are a few tricks that can help you in manipulating the search engine ...

Employee Offered $3.5 Million by Google Not to Join Facebook

We all know the love-hate war between Google and Facebook. The latter is trying to steal talent from the former and Google is trying hard to fight back. How? In a serious attempt to resist the dominating Facebook, Google is providing big bonuses to its employees. One senior engineer was offered a sweeping amount of $3.5 million in stock not to leave and jump. That’s quite a big amount to resist, so to say. When there are no other means to retain their employees from leaving the ship, Google is trying to tempt them through large bonuses. And it is actually working. Google has been offering cash bonuses to its employees in hopes to keep them happy. But rather than keeping their employees happy, this attempt is directed towards Facebook, who is on a constant hunt for talented professionals, who specially dwell in the Silicon Valley. Now, the best job is not working in Google or Facebook, but rather at Google after getting a job at Facebook. May be the Google employees should thank Faceboo...

Facebook siding with Microsoft to fight Google

Microsoft has announced that they are partnering with Facebook, integrating their search engine into the most popular social network. After the September’s search share results, it looks more like Bing will be trying to take on Google, after the search giant saw an increase in its share. When Bing is integrated into Facebook, it will unlock the wide potentials of social networking. But more so than Bing vs Google, the most likely partnership to occur is that of Facebook, who has been trying in earnest to overshadow Google. From mid August till last week, Facebook’s engineering team were in a lockdown mode and they emerged to unveil an updated Facebook Group and a lot more of other improvements. Google on the other hand, is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to forcing its way into the social networking scene. So far, Google has been failing to amass as much attention as Facebook, but the latter is beginning to become fidgety as they know that Google's efforts may just pay off ...

Search Share in September

Now the September search share is out and here’s the verdict. Google is gaining the share and Yahoo is collapsing. Ok, here’s the detail. For the first time in several months, Google has gained a modest share. We have seen Bing and Yahoo having a tremendous growth in the market share for the past few months and Google was spiraling down a bit. Now, they can heave a sigh of relief as this modest amount of growth may be a sign showing an upward trend. Yahoo’s share has dropped significantly and Bing’s share is steady but the share between Bing and Yahoo together has lost again to Google yet again. The total US explicit core search volume has increased to 16.1% Y/Y last month and accelerated from 13.0% growth in August. Google’s domestic explicit core search share was 66.1 % last month and it grew a meager share from august which was 65.4%. Yahoo’s share decreased to 16.7% last month and a meager drop from August which was 17.4%. As for Bing, the share grew to 11.2% last moth and the numb...

Facebook and Skype on Social Network VOIP Deal

Rivaling Google’s VOIP tools, Facebook will integrate along with Skype to let users leverage the VOIP giant’s PC to PC calling capabilities. Facebook and Skype are planning an integration that would allow their users to send SMS’s and make voice and video calls to friends and contacts through Skype. The users will be able to sign into Skype via Facebook Connect and allow them to sign into third party sites with the Facebook accounts. The integration is expected to happen in Skype 5.0 and will be launched in October. However, this report hasn’t been confirmed yet either from Facebook and Skype. They are keeping the whole thing a hush hush matter. Web users today are spending a lot of time in Facebook socializing rather than searching on Google. Even though Facebook has over 500 million users, they still want to improve the stickiness quotient as they are progressing its social advertising capabilities. To achieve this, Facebook has to give more emphasis on their communication capabiliti...

Bing boosts social search with Twitter account suggestions

You will now find suggested Twitter accounts displayed on Microsoft’s Bing search engine. This account will allow users of its social search engine to subscribe or follow in the Twitter parlance based on the search queries made. To choose the account suggestion, Bing gives more value to a wide range of factors about its author like popularity, influence and the knowledge about the theme in question. Twitter is growing fast with more than 140 million accounts and to find interesting people to follow can be a hard effort. With the people recommendation from Bing’s Social, you will now be able to discover relevant and interested Twitter users based on the searches. If someone is searching for a celebrity, Bing might suggest the star’s official Twitter account, while if you search for a product, the suggestion will be for the manufacturer’s account and of the professionals. Bing is increasing its capability in the popular area of social search. The search engines are trying hard to help th...

Bing is Coming up with a new trick against Google Instant

With Google Instant, it has fueled a new competition between all other major search engines. Now the competition is full on. New innovation has been accelerated in the search space with Bing. Google and Bing have been at each others throat, and have each been coming up with new technologies. The Google Instant went live last week, which changed the search page. Now Bing is not sitting idle, they are coming up with new interesting innovations to compete with Google. Microsoft has introduced some new features at the IE 9 launch event in San Francisco. Most of the features that Microsoft introduced rely upon CSS3 and HTML5, a little late to adopt. IE 9 is the only browser that can support Bing’s new features, but other browsers have supported this technology for years. Bing’s use of HTML5 tools is good news for the developers as it will speed up adoption of HTML5 compatible browsers. IE users are usually behind Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Safari users as they are totally new in adopting th...

Facebook - The Most Visited Site in US than Google

Facebook has a lot of reasons to smile as it has been confirmed that it is the most popular website in the USA. They have surpassed even the Internet giant Google. According to the report, people spend 9.9% of their daily time, perusing through Facebook as compared to 9.6% for Google. This study also took into account Google’s various services like Youtube and Gmail. The report showed figures from August and found that users spend about 41.1 millions minutes in Facebook as compared to 39.8 million minutes on Google. The usage of Facebook is constantly growing and let’s not forget that Google has been trying hard to overthrow them using their not so lucky networking experience. Facebook accounted only less than 5% of all time spent online in USA only a year back and today, they are more than 10%. Google has yet to crack down Facebook in the social media world. Facebook now has over 500 million users while Google has still yet to make their networking sites work. Let’s see if Google Me i...

Latest Google's Doodle Mystery

It is always interesting to see the designs of Google’s Doodle. You can say some of them are a masterpiece. Yesterday Google had unveiled a new logo and what’s great was that you could play along with it. "But it gradually recaptures its original color as you type into the search box." Google’s Doodle yesterday was a collection of colored balls which move away when you pass your mouse over them. When you put the mouse away, it settles down and form the Google logo. Unlike other Doodle’s this time it doesn’t appear to refer to anything in particular. The Google ball logo consists of a lot of HTML5. This is not the first time, Google has tried to do something different. In May 2010, they allowed internet users to play PacMan during the weekend on their homepage. This was selected to mark the 30th birthday of their classic arcade title. Yesterday’s doodle was fast, interactive and fun just like what Google is trying to make their search to be. Google hasn’t disclosed yet why th...

Google Live Search – Good or Bad

Google has always believed in refining its search value but they have been receiving a mixed reaction from the users especially for search engine optimization experts, it’s a big headache every time a change comes in. Now a number of changes have taken place, which include changes to the dictionary listings, images section and the color of paid adverts. All these changes have been done to enhanced the user experience. Most welcomed the changes but few dread over anything new comes. There had been a lot of speculation about the testing of their latest dashboard tweak but we still don’t know whether this is just a test that’s going to be wasted just like Google’s Wave expedition or it might turn out to be successful. The latest test is a feature which alters the search result as you type but this clearly modifies the page providing instant page refinement instead of pressing the enter key each time a keyword phrase is changed. This sound quite efficient, but does it bring anything new to...

Is Google losing its Grip in the Search Dominance

People have been keeping a close watch over the search market, and from the last few months they have seen Bing and Yahoo gaining their market share. But what you can notice also is that Google seems to be losing its share. In July, Google lost its market share to Bing and now a notable shift is that Yahoo is getting an increase in its search query as well for the first time since January. As you could see, Yahoo and Microsoft’s Bing have fused together in an effort to gain in the search realm. Yahoo’s organic search results are now powered by Bing’s algorithm in Canada and the USA. Some of the facts that were collected are: The number of Google users have declined steadily during this year and the figure is steady in recent months. Some of the users are moving to other search engines and most likely they are using mobile search and vertical search. Bing saw a decline in the search a bit earlier in the year but it has increased steadily since March. There were more searchers conducting...
