On Page SEO is often referred to as the functions that are required to gain access to the competition. What this basically means is that you cannot compete for rankings on the search engines on a specific key phrases unless your web page gives out those signals that it is a good match for the user query.

From an SEO point of view, the On Page content is not a ranking factor but solely helps to establish the relevancy of your page to certain search queries. The only way that On Page optimization can be considered as a ranking factor is if you stuff your pages with keywords. This is however a negative ranking factor.
